Independence Day

The Finnish community in Qatar organized an independence day party on December 6th. Finland celebrated its 95th Anniversary. 95 years as an independent nation. I am so thankful to all the war veterans, all who fought for our independency. Without their courage and their will to protect our country we would not be celebrating our 95th anniversary in 2012. This is the day we all show our respect to you. Thank you to all heroes of Finland!

It was a fantastic party that one Finnish family organized to the Finnish community in Qatar. The hostess had made some Finnish rye bread, some special pastries called karjalanpiirakka and meat balls. It tasted so good and a tiny bit of my homesickness disappeared that evening.

There was a funny incident as the national TV from Finland showed up. I just could not believe it. I thought TV and media would be something I would not have to deal with anymore. The reason they came were 2 Finnish squash players who were taking part in a tournament here in Doha. It was great to have a chat with these two sportsmen. I wish them best of luck in coming events. Two more Finnish sportsmen I will start to follow. If you are in Finland and want to see the program, tune in Urheilukatu. I don’t know for which day it will be scheduled, that you have to look up yourself.Image
