Trans Schwarzwald, stage 7

I really wanted to win the last stage up to Feldberg. It is the place where I spend so much time during winter. I finished second behind Milena. I have to live with it.

The start of the last stage was slow. We were a big bunch and only after 10km in the first longer and steeped climb it split up. I felt good and had a gap to Milena, which she closed pretty quickly in the flat parts. There my problems started again. The kilometers to the finish was just one suffering. Pedaling with power is just so painful. Every muscle in my body is just making a protest. My back is a disaster and I can hardly sit on my bike. This is a clear sign for me to put the bike away for a few months.

Even with the enormous problems I had during Trans Schwarzwald it was a great experience. I have done many stage races and this is definitely one of the best ones I have done. The organization was awesome. In the feedzones there was bottles handed out for the riders, which made everything smooth for the riders fighting for the top positions and also for the riders further back. The course was safe and I had no ‘that was close to an accident’ situation. During many other stage races there are some parts open for traffic and that is really dangerous.

I will definitely ride Trans Schwarzwald again and I do reccomend the race. Black forest is beautiful and worth a visit!
